I've been away from the system for several years, with my last build being an Intel I7 960 or even an older Intel Pentium 4 800. My aging I7 is due for a replacement, and while browsing Cyber Monday offers, I ended up purchasing a few parts.

I bought an Intel I9 12900k, an Asus ROG Strix Z790F motherboard, 32GB of DDR5 RAM, and an Adata 2TB M.2 drive. Still needed to get a good CPU cooler—options included the Noctua NH-D15 Black or the Dark Rock Pro 4. Since I prefer air cooling, an AIO wasn’t really in the cards, and I don’t plan on overclocking. Any suggestions or alternatives would be appreciated.

I’m also searching for a suitable case to fit everything comfortably, with room for expansion. LED lighting isn’t necessary—it’s just sitting under my desk, aside from the occasional cat light show. I need enough space for an Radeon 6700 (a gift from my child), who has already been given a 4070TI and is trying to get a 4070 for me, but that didn’t work.

What should I anticipate or prepare for during this build? Any advice would be really helpful.

The Noctua NH-D15 stands out as a premium cooler, surpassing most water coolers in performance. The Dark Rock Pro offers solid performance at a lower price point. For budget-friendly choices with minimal extras, the Corsair 4000D is a solid pick. It provides decent IO and ample space for cables. If you still have time, updating your SSD could be worthwhile. Samsung remains a reliable choice for SSDs, offering competitive pricing without significant differences from other manufacturers. You can find a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB.

For power sources, stick to trusted brands and invest adequately. A 750-watt unit is sufficient, making the Corsair RM750e a suitable option. It supports full modularity for a tidier setup and achieves 80+ Gold efficiency. All components appear strong, so you're ready to proceed with the remaining parts. Hope this information is useful, stay safe.
