NEW STEAM UI
NEW STEAM UI
It was interesting to see what everyone thought about the new Steam UI. I’m glad the updated design stands out because the previous version looked quite outdated. The store has always felt a bit cluttered and hard to navigate at times. While we’ve used skins before, I still visit Steam occasionally. I hope this change won’t interfere with installing skins. I’m sure the community will eventually create “Legacy” skins to work with the new interface, but it would be nice if Steam could let users switch between the old and new UIs easily.
Based on what I've observed of the redesign, it seems chaotic to me. I share most of Luke's concerns about it, and I lack the confidence in Valve to handle it well.
Is the updated interface still in progress? After turning on the Steam Beta setting and installing the latest beta client, I’m still seeing the previous layout.
I'm not a big fan of the stock Steam UI. Still, as someone who prefers a big picture mode, I often switch between my monitor and TV. The monitor gives me competitive FPS, while the TV handles racing games, Final Fantasy, and Mortal Kombat. The new UI feels quite similar to big picture mode with its strong visual style.
It seems there was a tech news article about this, but it's now hard to locate. I was planning to check the new UI. Overall, the updated interface looks similar to the previous launcher design. While not groundbreaking, Valve hasn't shown much innovation here. The side bar remains functional, providing access to menu items in the launcher areas. However, the main issue was the slow performance of the current launcher—often lagging, loading slowly, or redirecting users to incorrect pages. Fixing these problems would have made a significant improvement.
I don't like it at all; I much prefer the current UI. It's more modern but it's just a cluttered mess. Just let me choose my games in peace, Valve—I don't want to go through a bunch of menus just to find the game I want to play.
From this viewpoint, it becomes clear how beneficial it would be considering the constraints controllers impose.
It’s not a reality I experience daily beyond pressing the button once when BPM was first introduced, just to understand its nature—I’ve never actually used it since. The same applies to my feelings about Windows’ Metro style, especially for versions 8 and 10; I still prefer a straightforward list over icons or images.
I don’t rely on the standard Steam interface either; I switch between several skins periodically, which enhances the experience while keeping things functional. Right now, I’m using PixelVision 2, and none of my other skins have been updated since the recent changes, so I don’t anticipate any future updates.
