New setup with two same M.2 drives—find the best place for Windows.
Hi everyone, I just set up my new PC and had to pick between Disk 0 and Disk 1 during Windows installation. I have two identical M.2 drives from Western Digital SN850 on my motherboard (Asus Dark Hero). I know the top slot is faster, but how do I tell if it's Disk 0 or Disk 1? The BIOS shows both as 1 and 2 in the first picture. According to the manual, 1 is the top slot. Any suggestions? Thanks!
M.2_1 is the preferred choice. It's advised to remove every other storage device besides the one you're setting up for Windows. Occasionally, the installer might include boot files on a different drive, leading to potential issues later. Alternatively, you could combine them using RAID.
The changes in window functions and file transfer rates would be almost invisible. I wouldn’t worry about which particular drive Windows uses—just install one drive at a time.
