300/20 coaxial cable connects smoothly to various devices, but performance changes depending on the setup. Using the modem alone gives full speed, while adding the router reduces it to 20/20. Even after removing the router, the connection stays at 20/20 until the modem restarts. Updating or resetting firmware hasn't resolved the issue. Cables seem fine. This suggests a possible problem with your ISP rather than the equipment. What are your thoughts?

Have you copied your MAC address? I'm just checking a couple of possibilities—either your MAC isn't being recognized by the modem and ISP, which could cause connection issues, or there might be an issue with MAC address cloning (I've experienced that before). In the latter case, turning off that setting might fix the problem. But since you have a good router, it's unlikely to be the main reason.

In advanced settings of your LAN card, you might find performance options. Look for "Interrupt Moderation Rate" and set it to High or Extreme for testing. Turn off jumbo frames if they're active. Despite this, the Thomson modem seems decent.

Yeah it is completely garbage but it still can provide the full 300/20 to my computer if I plug it straight into my computer though

Certainly, the statement highlights a challenge in connecting to contemporary routers. Regarding the options you mentioned, they seem relevant to your situation.

I finally understood it... Just need to power on all the gadgets in the right sequence. It wasn’t an issue back home, maybe it’s about cable internet. Modem first, then router, then the computer.

It seems like either your ISP or the modem has an issue. It doesn't matter if they're restarted in a particular sequence. I've used Cable Internet for a while and have always managed to restart them in various orders. Still, nice to hear you solved it.
