Hey there, I'm trying to fix the weak wireless router part of my AIO internet setup, which is basically a modem. I'm considering the refurbished Linksys Hydra Pro 6E (MR7500) for a reasonable price. I've checked the basics, but I'm not super familiar with networking. I want to use the quiet 6GHz band since I live in a crowded apartment building. The reviews mention it doesn't handle 2.4/5GHz well, and anything that's "mission critical" is usually hardwired. If my few smart devices sometimes lag or act up, it shouldn't be a big deal. Any tips or warnings you have?

Typically your performance drops due to two main factors. First, the gateway you have is probably a weak wireless router. I advise turning off its wireless features and using it only as a modem connected to a separate standalone router. Second, being in an apartment complex means many nearby routers are active, possibly causing channel congestion. You might benefit from using a Wi-Fi analyzer app to identify less busy channels. I don’t have a personal view on the router; I find it difficult to pinpoint a bad model since all perform similarly unless you’re unlucky with your selection. 456 ratings with an average of 4.5 suggest it’s a decent option.

I'm currently enjoying the Netgear C6300v2 as a modem. The router idea was definitely worth considering. With the low-rise buildings and constant noise from modern AIOs, it's tough to have a clear conversation. I've found success with lower-rated gear (like Hanook Kinergy tires) and mixed results with higher-rated products (such as Xfinity support and HP after-sales). I also had some issues with Bosch whisper silent dishwashers.
