New router
New router
Hi there, I'm Lance, a competitive console gamer. I'm trying to upgrade my router and need advice—what’s the best option for me? I don’t own a PC, just a regular laptop. I’ve checked out the Nighthawk models from Netgear, but I’m not sure if they suit my needs. Any tips?
You currently have a setup, and you're interested in improving it. Your device is linked either through a cable or via Wi-Fi. What upgrades are you considering?
Currently I reside in a home of roughly 2000 square feet. While gaming, I consistently connect via Ethernet on the console. Streaming speeds typically cap at around 180 Mbps for downloads and about 6 Mbps for uploads. I’m planning to replace everything—new monitor and improved internet connection—to get the best performance possible.
I currently own the factory modem that comes with a rental agreement. My setup uses a Playstation 4, which runs smoothly on a wired connection. Performance peaks at 180Mbps for downloads and 6.0 Mbps for uploads. I’m planning to upgrade so I can compete more effectively and reach mainstream consumers rather than relying solely on factory equipment.
You expect a new router mainly to offer QoS and similar tools that help manage traffic, ensuring your console gets the bandwidth it needs without being cut off. It won’t significantly reduce ping or other performance issues.
