I need your assistance! Just finished assembling my brand new desktop PC. I thought I did everything correctly, but this is my first build. I verified all the connections carefully. Everything seems to be functioning normally now. The machine starts up, fans operate properly. It loads into BIOS and then the CPU temperature rises steadily to 100°C before the system freezes. I notice heat near the CPU area. I saved a screenshot of the BIOS after it crashed. I attempted to restart, but closed the screen after 4 seconds. After removing the CMOS batteries and waiting 10 minutes, I tried again. The PC restarted into BIOS, CPU temperature reached 80°C and climbed to 100°C within a minute before freezing again. Could you help identify the problem? Based on my research and watching tech tutorials over the years, I haven’t seen anything similar before. I’m really confused and would appreciate any guidance or step-by-step advice to resolve this issue. I was careful with the CPU installation—removed the protective plastic, applied thermal paste, and double-checked everything before securing it. The manufacturer mentioned the CPU cooler is working. Why does the CPU spike to such high temperatures just by entering BIOS? Also, since the CPU was sold by a professional company as bulk units, not in boxes, what could be causing this overheating?

Hi, thank you for the feedback on the first build. It’s great that it posts in one go. I’ll share my thoughts, but please wait for more responses—others might have better ideas that require less work to try first. It seems the cooler might be unevenly mounted or there could be a paste blob affecting contact. Take out the cooler and inspect both the cold plate and the IHS for even contact. When you retry, avoid tightening any screws at once; tighten them gradually in a diagonal pattern, starting from one screw and moving to the next. There are plenty of videos showing this technique. I hope this resolves the issue quickly—take your time and don’t rush; you’re already about 99% done.

Are you sure it isn't meant for LGA1700? Do you have a bracket ready to fit it?

Consider reinstalling the cooler. Wipe down the thermal paste from both components and reapply it.

Trying to get this process underway quickly. I’m not used to that specific socket or bracket, but I’m hoping you can share some advice.

Thanks for the timely updates. It seems the cooling block needs to be removed to reapply thermal paste, which makes sense because the CPU is overheating and the BIOS has adjusted the cooler. I’ll take photos during the process to keep you informed. Regarding your concerns, could the power pins on the CPU be incorrect? The motherboard supports 12 pins, and you have two split 8-pin cables. Would using the remaining four slots with the wrong pins be an issue? Also, I’m a bit worried I might have pulled the cables too tightly during installation, though I don’t feel confident about that.

Here are some images showing the thermal paste's appearance. It seems quite generous, but definitely on the liberal side. The following photos capture the new application and the state before pressing the cooler block onto it.

Attempted to start it, and the identical issue repeated. I have a recording of the final moments. Continued filming to check if it would power off while on camera. I halted and it shut down one minute after filming stopped. The CPU temperature rise was extremely rapid. At 100°C it completely froze. This shouldn't be typical in BIOS settings. The area near the CPU didn't feel warm. I'm wondering if the connectors to the AIO have an overly steep bend at the beginning. I can't install it due to the risk of gurgling sounds and this setup seems suboptimal. Based on my experience elsewhere, I wouldn't expect such a sharp bend in the pipes.
