New PSU worth it?
New PSU worth it?
Right now I'm using an FX-6300 with a GT 740 at 4.3GHz, max temperature around 50 °C after Cinebench R15. I added +0.12V to the default Vcore. My issue is with the FSP RAIDER 550, which isn't very good quality. I'm wondering whether to stop overclocking or invest in a new power supply. The problem is that my CPU cooler isn't Class A (beQuiet Pure Rock), so upgrading temperatures would be risky. If temps rise too much, I'd need a new cooler and then the motherboard might become an issue. Also, I'm planning to get a GTX 1050 Ti soon, but it shouldn't make a big difference in power use since my current GT 740 uses 64W compared to 75W for the new one.
Overclocking your equipment is completely acceptable. Raider is merely a rather mediocre platform. However, it isn't as risky as it seems, given the limited power of your hardware. You probably don't need to upgrade the PSU if everything is functioning properly, right?

I agree with that. Everything seems to be functioning properly. But does improved cooling influence power usage as well? I'm just curious if this is correct: better cooling leads to lower voltages, higher clocks, and consequently higher power consumption? So would higher clock speeds automatically mean increased power use, even if voltage stays constant?
