New PSU intermittently loops unexpectedly.
Hello and a joyful New Year to all!
I own a Gigabyte Bronze P650b and recently upgraded it with a 7800 XT. For safety, following AMD's advice, I installed Seasonic Gold GX 750W.
The first time the PC started up normally, then I suspended it.
A few hours later, when I powered it back on, it began looping on and off, accompanied by that clicking sound a couple of times. When I turned it off, the power button reactivated, but it kept cycling again—possibly due to residual power.
I was quite worried, so I completely shut it down. It felt like a short circuit was being prevented.
My current specs: i5 12400F (65W), multiple SSDs, and three 140mm fans. The GPU is an Xfx RX 7800 XT, consuming around 550-600W. My 650 can handle it, thanks to the 2-year warranty and its bronze build. I used a PSU from the tier list as a secure option.
I tried again: the PC kept switching on and off with that clicking noise.
I reinstalled the old PSU, and everything worked fine. I tested the PSU using the included tester—plugging it directly into a wall socket and turning it on confirmed normal fan operation.
I’m curious if something might be interfering, like a cable touching the PSU’s extra 6-pin connector on the motherboard. After the first loop, I checked all cables to ensure they were secure. They seemed fine.
The PC is now functioning properly with the old PSU and the new GPU, which uses independent PCIe Express cables instead of a daisy chain.
So... the PSU appears to be in good shape, but there might be an issue elsewhere in my system. I have the latest BIOS (Gibabyte Z690 U DDR4) and the PC is two years old with no problems.

the new design allows modular plug-in, so the 6-pin cable can be used without touching the board or case. you might want to try RMA with a 10-year warranty.
