New processor, no post (DRAM light activated)
Hi, I recently upgraded my cpu from a Ryzen 7 2700x to a Ryzen 9 3900x and attempted to boot up my PC. But to my surprise all of the leds turned on but there was no display on my monitor. My motherboard is telling me by the DRAM led staying on is that there may be an issue with my ram (4x8gb 3000mhz Corsair Vengence RGB Pro). Could you please help me figure out what the cause may be? Oh and here's my motherboard just in case (gigabyte b450 aorus m). Thank You. {sorry if that was too formal I'm new here}
Have you checked for BIOS updates? Make sure your current BIOS is the latest version. If not, reinstall it using your old CPU as a fallback. If that fails, attempt booting with just one RAM stick. Alternatively, reset the CMOS after installing the new CPU and see if it loads. In any case, ensure your system is running the most recent BIOS settings.
How recently did you purchase the motherboard? It's likely you received it before the B450 boards with third-gen Ryzen compatibility were included. You may need to update your BIOS to ensure compatibility with your new CPU. Simply reinstall the previous CPU and apply the latest available BIOS update to check for issues. If the problem persists, consider resetting the CMOS settings as a starting point.
Thanks for the update. I purchased this motherboard in late 2019 and the specifications say it supports the Ryzen 3000 series. However, there seems to be some concern about the old processor—possibly due to modifications made.
Thank you for your response. I've tested all my RAM sticks one by one without success. Worse, I suspect I may have damaged three pins on my old CPU, and the computer won't even power on. Even if it does work, I'm sure my motherboard is using the latest BIOS.
