New processor installed but system fails to start.
I have a Ryzen 3 2200G with an MSI X470 gaming motherboard. I attempted to install the latest BIOS, but since that version is still in beta, I’m using the most recent one. The new CPU I tried is the Ryzen 5 5600X, and it won’t boot at all. I double-checked the connections and made sure the fan was properly plugged in; after replacing the motherboard, it works correctly.
The only available option is the Beta bios, as it's the sole release for that board since the 5000 series launched in November 2020, making it the likely source for any compatibility features.
I evaluated the 3rd generation AMD as part of the 3000 series, though I might have missed some details. Their naming conventions for ZEN and RYZEN lines aren't always clear.
I've been testing this for a while now, and I wasn't expecting to try it again after the previous update succeeded. The second-to-last version worked perfectly, but the M Flash isn't recognizing the beta BIOS file on the USB.
The beta BIOS is now available for a month, as shown on MSI's site, even though there might have been other versions before that are no longer supported. The 5000 series was launched a year ago, and the most recent stable BIOS update listed was June 2020. It’s unclear why m flash doesn’t support the beta version—I haven’t used any MSI products or tested it myself.
