New PC/Builder experiencing CPU overheating and BSoD error.
In recent days I assembled my initial PC: case model Phanteks Enthoo Pro-Acrylic, motherboard MSI MPG Z490 Gaming Plus, processor Intel i7-10700K, cooling unit EK-AIO Basic 240, RAM Corsair Dominator Platinum 32 GB (2 x 16GB) using DDR4-3000 CL15, storage options including Seagate Barracuda 2 TB and Samsung 980 Pro PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD with 1TB XFX-Speedster Qick 308 AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT, power supplied by EVGA SuperNova GA 1000 W G6 OS, operating system Windows 10 Pro without product key. When installing required drivers, a warning appeared about CPU overheating during startup—maximum duration around 10 minutes and 15 seconds. After restarting, I encountered a message indicating the PC encountered an issue and needed to restart again. " or "A problem was detected, and Windows shut down to avoid damage. " was displayed with an uncorrectable error code. Upon rebooting, a warning about CPU overheating appeared within 60 seconds of power-on. I have two intake fans, one front fan, and one rear exhaust fan; the AIO units connect to CPU_Fan, the pump to Pump_Fan, and the rest to Sys Fan. All fans function properly, yet the CPU still overheats even with the case open. I re-applied thermal paste and ensured proper contact. I tried formatting drives to remove potential driver conflicts, but couldn’t complete it before a blue screen occurred. I didn’t format any drives because I wanted to try a fresh setup. I don’t have drive data that requires saving. When I gently touched the unit on the CPU, it felt cool with only slight warmth after shutdown—only noticeable when the PC powered off. The cooling tubes appear functional and temperature stayed stable. I suspect the pump may be faulty, though I haven’t replaced it yet. BIOS showed CPU temperature at 80°C while the motherboard was at 30°C during idle. Also, I had components available for a few months due to graphics card shortages, but hardware remained sealed in packaging and the case was cleaned before installation. @Cr33ps 1. Check the picture, it’s currently lying down. 2. I’m not certain if the problem is with the disk. All parts are brand new. 3. When I have Windows 10 Pro without a key, during the initial setup I had to enter the product key in the menu. There’s also a button to proceed without one, which I used. I intended to install Windows 10 Pro completely after first configuring the PC and confirming it would work.
It seems everything is working as expected, likely using the standard Windows 10 setup. The floating EPS cable is probably just an additional connector, not a critical component. There are no intake fans installed, which can help prevent overheating. Consider relocating any fans to the front of your case for better airflow.
The floating eps cable is an extra, the motherboard had 12 pins and not 16. There is a fan at the front of the case located in the lower right that came with the case. I believe I am not able to move the aio to the front because of how the case fan configuration is set up because that is where the HDD/SSD are stored. Also I thought that the way the AIO is configured on top would be the way to suck air in, not out. Am I wrong? The logo of the fan is facing away from the motherboard, and I though the short hand was faces suck.
