New PC - Odd fresh Windows 10, press enough and it will...
I've never encountered such unusual actions before. Could you clarify what's happening? I'm trying to figure out the main problem here. Right now, I have a brand-new PC with just the essential drivers installed. I launched Edge to download the Discord app and visited Nvidia’s site for the latest graphics card drivers. The screen is empty except for two installers: Discord and Nvidia. When I click Discord, it freezes with a Java error. It seems like a clean Windows 10 setup, nothing else installed. I restarted and tried again, but the Discord installer kept crashing. I attempted the Nvidia version, which only loaded about 28% and then crashed due to a 7Zip CRC error. I searched for solutions but found little useful advice. At that point, I decided to push through, clicking the installer repeatedly until it finally finished. Later, when I returned, everything worked. It's strange—I managed to get Discord and even a game installed, though they both crashed after opening. I'm puzzled about this behavior. My system specs are impressive: an Intel Core i9-14900K, 3.2 GHz, 24-core processor, Asus ROG STRIX B760-I motherboard, Corsair Vengeance 64 GB RAM, MSI VENTUS 3X graphics card, and a 16 GB video card from Corsair SF1000L. I'm still trying to understand what's going on here.
To ensure optimal performance on Windows, begin by turning off the Armoury Crate in your BIOS settings. Verify the BIOS version; this will be crucial later when updating or installing Intel management firmware and drivers. Next, reinstall the system but avoid connecting to the internet during this process. Prepare your drivers and a DDU portable on the same flash drive you use for Windows installation. Create a dedicated folder named “driver” or similar. After completion, refrain from letting Windows install drivers automatically. When you first boot into Windows, keep the internet off. Open DDU quickly, adjust its options, and disable any automatic driver installations. Close DDU and then proceed with the installation steps. Do not allow Windows to install drivers on its own. If the GPU driver appears in the Nvidia control panel, launch DDU in safe mode (it will ask for this). After restarting, check if the GPU driver was successfully installed. If so, restart DDU again and select “Clean and Restart” for the GPU. Once the system restarts, apply the latest BIOS update, then download the Intel management driver from Asus, install the chipset drivers, and finally add sound, network, and Nvidia drivers.
I performed another Windows 10 setup using your instructions, but encountered the same problem when trying to install Nvidia. The installation would begin at around 48% completion and then stop due to an error related to a 7Zip CRC. After roughly ten minutes of waiting, it finally finished installing.
