New PC issues with outdated SSD. Problem arises after upgrading to a fresh system.
Hello Everyone,
My recent PC is experiencing a problem where after running Windows 11 for about an hour or two, the mouse and keyboard stop responding. Music, videos, and games still play fine, but the input devices are unresponsive. I suspect this is related to my SSD. I previously used a Samsung 2TB NVMe M.2 SSD in my older system running Windows 10, which transitioned to Windows 11 on the new build. The SSD is seven months old and was used for light gaming and programming. Have you encountered any specific driver updates needed? I've already updated the GeForce drivers. When I moved the card into the new PC, I simply removed it from the old system and inserted it directly. Was there a particular procedure before or after installation that could have affected it? I'll share the build details below. Thanks!
New build: CPU: Intel Core i9-12900K 3.2GHz
Motherboard: MSI Z690-A Pro DDR4 Intel LGA 1700 ATX
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB
Power Supply: NZXT C850 Gold 850W
Video Card: MSI NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ventus M.2 / NVMe SSD
Old build (same NVMe SSD): CPU: i5 6600k @ 4.2GHz
Motherboard: ASRock Z270 Extreme4
RAM: 16GB 2666mhz
Power Supply: Corsair Vengeance
PSU: EVGA Supernova 750w
Semi-modular: Bronze 80+
Video Card: GTX 1070 SC 8GB M.2 / NVMe SSD

Getting the chipset driver for your motherboard is generally advisable, especially on AMD systems. Also, remove any software tied to the previous configuration. To clarify, did you reinstall Windows during the SSD swap or simply perform a straightforward OS replacement? Swapping an OS is fine, though occasional issues can arise—often related to drivers. I’d go through a full uninstall first, then do a thorough reinstall of the Nvidia drivers.
