New PC experiencing unusual graphics glitches
I recently installed a brand new PC with a Ryzen 7 7700X, RX 6950XT, and 32GB of 5200MHz RAM running Windows 11. I’m facing two main issues. First, I can’t exceed 120Hz at 2560x1440 resolution even though my RTX 2070 supports it. Could it be related to the cables or something else? Second, I notice strange graphics glitches—like green flickers or squares—on my secondary monitors whenever I switch tabs out of a game. These only appear when I exit a game and check other screens, not during gameplay. The worst case is World of Warcraft, which runs perfectly without artifacts when I switch tabs. I’ve tried disabling MPO, reinstalling the graphics drivers, and even turned off AMD Adrenaline rage mode, but nothing helped. Any suggestions would be really appreciated.
I explained the process clearly. Did you rely on DDU or simply remove and reinstall the driver?
Are you connecting via HDMI or DP on the 6950XT? HDMI isn't great overall, so DP would be better for any PC monitor when possible. I can't comment on FFXIV, but in WoW you can adjust GPU output and API settings in advanced system settings—it's worth experimenting with. I've tried heavily swapping GPUs on the same setup, using different Nvidia cards and a Radeon card without DDU, so issues seem solvable without that tool. It might be necessary, but I haven't encountered a situation needing it before.
You should be able to launch DX12 without too many problems. It might help to remove the Nvidia program from the control panel, as background presence can cause issues. Ray tracing performance in Dragonflight isn’t great unless it’s turned off, since it felt useless when enabled.
Also shouldn't be necessary, yet forcing PCIe 4.0 on the PCIE1 x16 port. If this occurs in FF and WoW, it's probably not due to the software. Have you installed the chipset driver for your system? I've had to add it on nearly every AM5 build so far to fix some problem. Both your CPU's integrated graphics and discrete GPU are using RDNA2, which could indicate a strange conflict. That driver handles more than just chipset tasks—AMD often includes many features in that package.
