New PC build for Starfield – pending purchase (confirm details)
Hi,
I’ve been playing on an Intel i5 7600K with an RTX 2070 Super on an MSI Z270 Camo Squad. It performed well at low or medium settings (3440X1440 in ultra wide) until I began running "Starfield." No matter the setting I chose, it would freeze. I’ve tried everything possible to fix it, but nothing has worked.
I’m considering giving up and looking for a new partner—after all, the motherboard doesn’t support Windows 11, which means I’m essentially purchasing a PC just for Starfield.
Here’s the build I’ve put together after some research:
My goals:
1. Play any game at ultra max settings across all levels.
2. Have future upgrade possibilities.
3. Run Starfield.
4. Enjoy gaming alone, without video editing, streaming, or photo editing.
And these are the specifications I found in Sydney.
What I’m purchasing:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D (Base: 4.7GHz, Boost: 5.2GHz / 104MB Cache / AM5 / 8 Core / 16 Threads / 120W)
- Motherboard: ASRock X870E Nova
- Graphics: PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB
- RAM: G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB Black 64GB (2x32GB) PC5-48000 (6000MHz)
- Storage: Crucial 4TB SSD, T705, M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 5.0 (no heatsink)
- Case: HYTE Y70 Touch Infinite Panda Mid Tower E-ATX
- PSU: Lian Li Edge EG1000 1000W White Power Supply
- Cooler: Thermalright Frost Commander 140 Black Dual Loop, 140mm & 120mm fans
- Additional fans: HYTE THICC FP12 (6 pcs)
I’m hoping this setup won’t be too overkill and will meet all my requirements. Please let me know if any component needs improvement. I’m open to downgrading safely if it doesn’t affect my goals.
Thank you.
I don't understand what he's discussing since any NVMe SSD with or without a heatsink that fits the storage device on any NVMe slot works as long as the slot matches the device size. Motherboards usually include built-in heat spreaders that are sufficient. If the heatsink is too bulky due to a graphics card above it, it can be removed and the integrated motherboard heatsink can be used instead.
I've lowered your expenses by $1000 and included an additional storage unit. Even with the Hyte and 64 GB, it remains $1000 below the original price.
