About a month ago I switched from a B450 Steel Legend to a Biostar B450M because the original was faulty. The startup time appears slower in the BIOS setup for the motherboard. Is there a reason behind this or a solution to try? I’m not very familiar with BIOS settings beyond switching my boot device.

We’ve likely reduced performance settings. In terms of startup speed, the time has noticeably increased from 15 to 20 seconds. It’s not a major concern.

It's likely about 30 seconds, but recalling the startup time on your previous board does bother me. Will swapping boards with identical chip sets affect the boot duration?

The chipset is only part of the overall setup. When your PC starts up, it runs a Power-on self-test (POST), which checks various components. This process could be longer on the Biostar model. You might have the option to turn on "fast boot" to bypass some tests, possibly because it was active on the previous system and turned off now. It’s worth checking the settings menu for similar features.

Certain boards perform differently, and your Giga EP45 DS4P is notably sluggish at the end of posts due to slow HDD detection, whereas your P5Q posts run smoothly. This difference comes from a board upgrade—EP45 OCs are better than P5Q even with BIOS mods. Unless you prioritize extra brightness, overclocking, or more PCIe expansion, this shouldn’t be a big issue.

You might have activated certain options by default that slow down startup, such as SATA RAID (the BIOS could require pressing a key sequence to configure it) or booting from a network drive with a slight delay. Review your BIOS settings, keep only the SSD or intended device in the boot sequence, turn off unused features, and adjust accordingly.
