I'm considering a new motherboard upgrade. My current setup is an ASUS Prime A320M-K, and I've identified two options. I'm planning to move to a B550 in a few years, possibly upgrading to a 5000 series. I've found two boards that fit my budget, but I'm unsure which offers better overclocking potential. The Gigabyte model seems to have superior rear I/O, but how does that compare to the MSI option for overclocking? Your links are helpful. Thanks in advance!

I believe both options would work well. The MSI model might offer better performance, though. Given your budget, you could achieve a gaming advantage with an X570 setup, which would be a stronger choice. Either of these would manage the 5000 series fine (though not the 5950x). Pick the one that suits you best according to your requirements. I’d opt for the refurbished X570, but any choice is acceptable.

Could a Ryzen 5 2600x fit on the B550 platform? Their site lists the minimum compatible as the 3000 series.

You're correct, it requires an X570 or B450 board to back your CPU and enable Zen 3 support. What is your budget for a board?

For a tighter budget, consider alternative parts under £64.98. Options include the MSI B450M PRO-VDH MAX Micro ATX AM4 at £64.98 or the Asus TUF GAMING B450M-PRO S at £128.90. The latter is a solid choice, while the B450M TUF Pro variants are less recommended.
