New MOBO
New MOBO
I own a Dell Vostro 230 with solid components, but I need more demanding games beyond the usual titles. Current specs: NVIDIA Quadro 600 (boosted to 823MHz graphics and 925MHz RAM), Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400 at 2.66GHz, 2x DDR3 sticks (Patriot 4GB x1600 Viper 3 Series 435W TFX), Adata SU800 SSD (256GB). I have an i5-2400 that I can't use and was considering pairing it with a GTX1050 LP or RX550 LP. The power supply seems adequate for all the gear, so no replacement needed. Eight gigabytes of RAM is sufficient for my needs, and I plan to upgrade later if desired. The SSD is brand new, so no replacement required. With this information, I'm searching for a new motherboard that fits the original case and offers better performance without breaking the bank. I find it frustrating with the limitations of a quad-core processor, even more so with my budget card!
A fresh board could boost performance and improve CPU compatibility. Check if your board fits a case and confirm it’s ATX. Your new board should fit snugly inside the case. When overclocking, consider upgrading your power supply soon. It’s cool you appreciate working with older components. Could you share the part number from the heatsink sticker? I’m interested in knowing which Vipers you own—they usually have solid memory options.

These components should work well for 8-8-8 timings at 800mhz (1600mt/s) with a slight boost in voltage.
