I really enjoy Hayter, though I'm trying to clarify my thoughts. David or Kris Z might have slipped out of character at some point—the Snake growl shifted from a tough tone to something sounding like he had a cold. The performance with the best acting is number one, two is decent but a bit stiff with extra growls, and three should have been a different actor to make the bb and ss clear. In terms of delivery, three feels worse than one and two, though it has some charm. Four seems to fit better because it matches the unnatural voice and the odd character look, especially since he’s supposed to be 39 but looks older. Peace Walker’s version was terrible mainly because it stuck to an old Snake voice and had that unnatural throat-cranking sound. Unfortunately, Hayter’s seniority and sequels mean he gets paid more thanks to union rules. At this stage, he was probably the most expensive actor, possibly more than Troy Baker and a lot more than the washed-up Sutherland.
