New laptop suggestion for trading?
Hello everyone,
I really need a fresh laptop for trading. My current one is quite old and I’m using Interactive Brokers. While TWS works, it tends to be slow due to my system’s specifications. I’m hoping to get some advice from other IB traders on laptops that support TWS and perform well in speed.
My Dell model has been reliable so far, but it’s starting to wear out. I also used an Asus laptop which performed nicely. It doesn’t have to be a high-end gaming rig, but I’d like at least 32GB of RAM (though I’m not sure if that’s necessary), an SSD with 1TB space, and a strong GPU—Nvidia or Radeon would be ideal. A backlit keyboard would also be a plus after years without one.
I’ve been researching and considering Lenovo E or P series models. It’s unclear which offers better performance. The Legion seems solid for general use, while the Dell XPS could be good for multitasking. I’m not very tech-savvy enough to pinpoint the exact features needed for trading software. It’s said TWS should work on most systems since it’s Java-based, but there are still limitations based on hardware.
Thanks in advance for your time, suggestions, and any insights you can share!

You don't require a powerful GPU because your charts won't be 3D. The iGPU of a mobile CPU will definitely suffice. What matters is having a large screen and high resolution to view multiple charts. IB TWS runs on Java, so it won't be heavily multithreaded either. However, I still recommend a CPU with at least 8 cores and 16 threads, as you'll likely run other trading software and browsers with many tabs that demand multithreading.
