Hello! I’m an IT support teacher for high school students with around two years of experience assembling and maintaining custom PCs. We began an ITX build using these parts: Asterisk from a functioning PC, ESD precautions applied, and no visible damage or debris. All connections look intact. We initiated the BIOS setup from the "On the box" stage. The first attempt at booting failed due to a DRAM LED error. After reseating the RAM, the system started again. When power was cut and the GPU connected, the POST remained unstable, repeatedly showing a DRAM LED failure. I inspected each DIMM individually and removed the GPU without resolving the issue. ASUS support confirmed my RAM wasn’t listed as compatible. I’ve ordered a replacement kit from G.Skill (RipJaws V Series, 16GB, DDR4 3200 CL16-18-18-38), but I couldn’t locate it using their ASUS query tool. It appears the recommended RAM is highly specific to certain models and may no longer be produced or too costly for older variants. I’m unsure what to do next, especially if the new RAM doesn’t fit. I want to confirm if I missed something obvious, but I feel confident in my efforts so far.
Ryzen remains selective about RAM even after many years. I’d consider a different CPU if one is available. If the new RAM order fails, I’d likely rely on what’s listed in their QVL. I might need to search for used options. Welcome to the forum.
It seems I picked up a tip here. I tackled the issue by adding the Ryzen 7 5800X3D and updating the latest BIOS. Everything is working now. Just need to tidy things up, but I feel confident. Perhaps this will let me hit 300 fps in Old School Runescape. A man can dream.
Haha yeahhh. When I got my 5900 I made sure to use the same RAM it came with and things were a bit tricky with the motherboard; one thing for sure, I wouldn't buy an AMD board without USB BIOS flashing. It would have been a mess. It's frustrating that AMD can't offer CPUs with better memory support. Enjoy
