New Intel B460 boards might support overclocking features.
The B460 iCraft Gaming Endless has three small buttons on its back labeled "L," "C," and a lightning bolt. Their purpose remains unclear, but we’re not planning to purchase an Intel CPU.
So far I've seen Gigabyte, Biostar and Asus hint at something "big" happening on Thursday. Guess we'll find out then. Also on overclocking, there's different levels of it. On Intel side, TDP isn't exactly enforced so not considered an overclock, and does not affect warranty if you modify the system limit. To do the same with AMD's equivalent PBO is considered a warranty voiding overclock to the best of my understanding, although I'm not 100% on that. The fully unlock overclocking is also of limited value on AMD side since there is so little headroom you can only get by essentially choosing not to be stable in all situations. Intel might be relaxing as they seem to be following in that respect, with each release getting closer to their limits than historically. Did they ever say it was impossible? There's things they can do, and things they want to do. Now, they're doing things they have to do in response to AMD.
I understand, soon you'll see i5s with hyper-threading, every CPU will be open, and the B460 will handle decent I/O. That's really crazy!
