I recently upgraded my desktop setup and wanted to hear what others thought, as well as note a few issues I've encountered. PCPartPicker Link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/Ymr2XL For those who prefer not to click the link: OS: Windows 10 Pro (previously Windows 7 Pro) CPU: AMD FX-6300 Mobo: ASUS Crosshair V Formula-Z RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 4GB x4 (previously two separate dual-channel kits) GPU: MSi R9 390 GAMING 8GB Storage: Seagate 2TB Hybrid SSHD Optical Drive: LG GH24NSC0 DVD/CD Writer PSU: Corsair CX600 Case: Thermaltake VL800P1W2N (Black/Red) ATX Mid Tower Case Monitor: HP W2082a (not listed on PCPartPicker) Audio/Headset: Astro A40 + Mini Amp (Saint's Row 4 Limited Edition) Keyboard/Mouse: Cooler Master CM Storm Devastator Gaming Bundle Wired Gaming Keyboard w/Optical Mouse The system performs adequately for me. I can play Tomb Raider on Ultimate at around 60.5fps. I also tried GTA V Benchmark, but it gave me a very low frame rate of 17-21fps, which is concerning for me? My GPU seems capable of handling it easily... right? I've checked the performance of my GPU with Afterburner, and it shows the CPU running near full capacity while lowering graphics to 21fps max. I haven't tested how my GPU handles GTA V, but it shouldn't be a big issue with that model. Earlier, I used Windows 7 on an old HDD and kept the same CD+Product Key for this build. After installing Windows, updates stopped working. I tried updating manually but got a connectivity error to Windows Update. Once I switched to Windows 10, the problem disappeared. Anyone else face this? Lastly, when playing Fallout 4, I had an R9 270x with drivers before the 390. After switching to the newer GPU, I installed Crimson drivers and am satisfied. Sometimes it stutters, especially during big battles with Bandits or Super Mutants; BoS Vertibird attacks make it worse, especially when both are active at once...Lag City. My main complaints are lag and compass issues. Any suggestions for fixing these?

others experienced issues with GTA, but for me it works smoothly with a 970 from MSI and an FX 4100 (though that's my setup). I'm planning to try it on Windows 7 soon, especially if the HDD is on a different motherboard—likely you'd need to remove all drivers before installing. It might just be a minor glitch. I haven't faced this problem with Fallout, but it could be related to the card or the game itself. It's hard to say for sure, but if it performs worse than your previous setup, the card might be the issue.

Stick to your topics! It makes sense why you're experiencing low frame rates. Your 6300 is limiting the performance of the 390. I suggest upgrading to an 8350 if you don’t want to change your motherboard. If you do, consider an i5-6400 with a H series board instead of the 8350. Besides the Windows 10 problems, everything seems fine.

The compass issue with the crimson drivers is well documented, and there should be a solution available online. For the FPS problems in the city—where shadows appear excessively even on powerful rigs—downloading the Shadow Boost mod might provide some relief. Additionally, your CPU performance seems limited; it may be worth checking if upgrading or optimizing it could help.

My CPU seems to be limiting my GPU performance, which surprised me. I initially dismissed it after a friend suggested everything should work fine. After getting the Crosshair graphics card, I plan to upgrade the CPU. Also, I’ll install the driver fixes tomorrow. Thanks again for your tips!

The entire FX line is quite disappointing; I wouldn’t switch to another one since they’re really showing signs of aging. The issue lies in the core quality—upgrading doesn’t help much if the underlying components are weak. Even adding more cores won’t make a big difference because most games don’t take advantage of them. That’s why Intel’s quad-core processors with stronger cores perform better.
