they have enough money regardless. And Valve doesn't have shareholders and publisher telling them to release by x date to maximize profits. The Internet has turned Half life into a cult thing. Expectations are a bit unreasonable and it won't be considered satisfactory for valve to just release a good solid game. People expect it to be something revolutionary. So despite ongoing development valve feels that it's not worth putting it out until they have something new to offer.
get ready to play the games! they'll break it down for you. it might not feel quite as special 10 years later (half life 2 still looks great), but half life 1 inspired me to get a gaming PC since none of my old machines could handle it. I finally got one and it was way ahead of its time. half life 2 really took over, outshining everything else. it had a solid story and realistic physics—things behaved as they should in a living world. people are eager for episode 3 because episode 2 left some big questions unanswered. since it's been a decade since one of Valve's biggest hits, many want another version!

I view the Half-Life series as above average to good, yet not enough to justify the internet cult following and repetitive jokes.
