Hi guys, I have just builded a completely new PC: CPU: i9 10900K MOBO: Gigabyte Aorus Z490 Ultra rev 1.1 Bios F7a RAM: Patriot DIMM 16 GB DDR4-4400 (2x8GB) PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower PF1 850W SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1 TB AIO: be quiet! Pure Loop GPU: none, still waiting for a new rtx And unfortunately the stability test in AIDA64 ends up with "Warning: Hardware failure detected! Test stopped" after couple of minutes. I don't see any further information about that communicate, if I open HW info during the test it shows no hardware errors. Everything is at stock values, I haven't OC-ed anything yet. By default AIDA performs tests "Stress CPU", "Stress FPU", "Stress cache", "Stress system memory", I have tried to check them one by one and so far if I try solo tests - I was able to recreate the "Hardware failure" message only with "Stress cache" test. I see that in the past that guy here had the same result and in his case it were two memory slots in his mobo that were damaged: However I looked through the internet and I see that could be simply a RAM issue as well. What is more, I got a debug code "25" on my Mobo displayed, that could also be RAM-related, but reddit says it could be simply caused by the Gigabyte's APP Center: https://www.reddit.com/r/techsupport/com...g_code_25/ My plans are: -memtest -plugging some RAM stick out, switching them, switching dim slots, etc -if that wouldn't tell anything I would uninstall APP Center to see if that could help me to get rid of the debug code 25 Do you guys have any other ideas what to do, what to check, or anything? Every piece in this setup is brand new so I can simply return it, but I am not sure now what piece is damaged. I haven't experienced any freezes, crashes, anything - but maybe that's because I haven't try to play any games yet due to lack of the GPU. Is there any other stress test that you could recommend and that could maybe guide me to the right direction?
On a fresh setup if something fails return it. My Hero board I purchased for my i9 10900k wouldn't boot with XMP activated, so I sent it back. The new one works flawlessly. With multiple machines I verified the RAM functions properly. It's wise to keep an older GPU on hand as backup. You might need a bigger power supply. I recently pushed overclocking to 5.3ghz for the first time. Under load the i9 consumed 327 watts. Thus my system can draw up to 750 watts when overclocked. If you're using the 30 series which tends to spike, extra power may be necessary. I also wish you obtained the 360mm Pure Loop—it's the minimum requirement for an i9 10900k.
Hi @jones177, thanks for your response! The entire build is entirely new, not just the motherboard, and to get what I wanted I ordered parts from four different stores and installed them myself. Once I find out what’s wrong, I’ll return the damaged item but first need to figure out what to send back and where. Yes, I have a 360mm Pure Loop and placed a thermal grizzly kryonaut there. Regarding power supply, when choosing what to buy, I checked recommended specs and thought 750W would suffice with a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC. I went up to 100W extra just in case I don’t heavily overclock it. Do you think I really need 1000W if I’m not planning to heavily overclock?
I run the i9 without the Intel power cap. The 360mm AIO maintains CPU temps under 70°C, allowing the i9 to leverage its full boost potential. This configuration outperforms a 5GHz multi-core overclock and in some tests surpasses 5.1 as well. Most of my usage stays around 217 watts. Only boosts above 5.2 seem justified over stock. A 5.3 was just for fun—it performs well and remains stable in games. I don’t need the overclock right now, though I might consider it later. The i9 typically runs at 4.9GHz all cores naturally. In games without core strain, it beats my i7 8086K at 5.1GHz. An 850W PSU should suffice, but some users report problems with 3080s and 850W units. Perhaps the next generation will fix the overheating concerns.
So I think it's fine for me to keep using 850W, but thanks for sharing the details! I've attached my memtest results from the initial run. This is my first time actually noticing errors there. The current issue is that I took out one stick, ran the test again—no problems. Then I swapped it out and put the first one back, again no issues... I plan to test both of them again to check if switching in and out fixed it, but those tests take a long time and it's already past midnight here. So I'll keep going tomorrow after work. But if switching in and out solves the hardware problem, what should I do? Should I return something (like RAM or the motherboard) or leave it? I've read many discussions where people say this is normal for RAMs to be removed and reinserted, which might suggest my hardware isn't damaged. Also, setting up the PC took me a few hours (it was my first time), and inserting RAM into the motherboard was my first step—I didn’t know if that really matters, but it’s worth noting. If someone encounters the same issue as me with this new gear—gosh, it was really tough! I’ve swapped almost every component of my setup for the latest parts (and spent a lot of money), yet the problem persists. The default XMP profiles on the Patriot DIMM 16 GB DDR4-4400 (2x8GB) aren’t reliable at all. I had to start from scratch, learning RAM OC from zero. It took me around 30 combinations and many hours before I found a stable setting. Although the bandwidth is low, the latency is still decent and it’s a reasonable price compared to similar sticks. My only choice is a 3600MHz 15CL RAM. This stress might cut my life short by a few weeks—definitely not worth dealing with Patriot RAM until you’re more experienced with this stuff.
