new i3 vs "old" i5?
new i3 vs "old" i5?
Hey everyone, I'm asking about performance differences. Are the newer 9100 and 10xxx series Intel Core i3 chips more powerful than the 4. Gen Haswell and Devils Canyon i5s in gaming and multitasking? Thanks for your help!
The discussion covers many aspects beyond just the numbers. It includes the IPC count, IMC, cache latency, RAM speeds, and FPU performance. The 10100 chip is actually superior to the 4690k, and upgrading to a 3300x offers much better value.
Coffee Lake i3s (8000/9000) are similar to Skylake and Kaby Lake i5s (6000/7000), which are also quite close to Haswell and Devil's Canyon i5s. Comet Lake i3s (10000 series) match Coffee Lake i5s more closely if we focus strictly on Intel's offerings.
Thanks for the details. I won’t be swapping my CPU just yet unless it fails, but it’s nice to realize you can now achieve similar performance at a lower cost since many of these i3 models are now cheaper than an i5 4690K back then.
Core clocks aren't the sole factor in determining a good or bad CPU.
IPC is not a single number It varies from work load to another There is also the fpu which has a part in executing and doing the complicated instructions Over all tho, if you want to upgrade I would say wait unless you really need an upgrade now
