I'm still figuring out the best way to handle this situation. The story begins when I purchased a GTX960 about half a month ago from Fry's. Back then, no one had mentioned getting a promo code for Witcher 3, and I didn't realize I should have received one. Everything seemed fine until three weeks later. I was at the local Fry's with my 960 in hand, weighing whether to buy another 960 for $200 more or return it to get a 970 for $175 more. While chatting with the PC department manager, he mentioned that buying a 960 would unlock a promo code for Witcher 3, while a 970 or 980 would give codes for both Witcher 3 and Batman: Arkham Knight as a premium tier. This influenced my choice to buy the GTX1 gaming 970 and return the 960. I didn't stress about not getting a promo code on the original purchase since it no longer matters now that I have both. I completed the paperwork at the PC department and went to checkout, where the cashier matched what the manager said. Two weeks later, Fry's PC manager emailed me my promo code—my only one. I called to confirm I’d been promised two codes. He explained Nvidia had pulled the promotion and was only notifying them about the distribution process. He advised reaching out to Nvidia directly since Fry's isn’t their reseller, and suggested contacting Fry’s again to resolve the issue. After a week of calls and messages, I’m seeking advice from the community on what to do next. I can still return my 970 GPU. I’ve already received but not used my promo code. If I return it, will the code still work? If yes, I might wait for the next promotion to get the second code as promised. It’s frustrating. Overall, I’m happy with the new GPU, but disappointed I’ll have to spend another $60 on Witcher 3.

Don't rely on Frys for the free code either. They never provided an AMD never settle version when I purchased my 270X.

The 960 has already been returned, and I didn’t receive a code during purchase. My current card is 970, and I still have an unused code in my inbox. I’m checking to confirm the code isn’t voiding Frys’ return policy if it’s been used, and whether the code/game remains valid after returning the card. I’d like to keep the card and also get my Witcher 3. Frys should provide a disk copy if they can’t resolve this with NVIDIA, especially since this is what I bought.

You received one promotional code, but it seems to be linked to Batman Arkham Knight instead of what you expected. The situation with Witcher 3 was complicated because you had to buy it from a different store, and after several emails and calls, they told you the code would come from NVidia. They reached out on your behalf, which is why you received it. I'm sorry for the confusion and any inconvenience this caused.

We discussed this with another manager from Frys. According to the latest update, Nvidia ran out of promo codes for Witcher 3 on the first day. My purchase was made on the sixth day, so it's unclear if I'll receive one. Nvidia has clearly stated that it won't be available. Several staff members had assured me it would work, and they're now reaching out to other retailers to check for any unused codes. The situation seems tough, especially since I ended up with a broken game I didn’t want and missed the one I was excited about.

It's truly disappointing that Batman Arkham Knight was released as a broken game. Back then, the store had removed the Witcher 3 promotion and only advertised Batman as a free title. Fortunately, I managed to get one of the codes from them, hoping they would provide it from another source. They had promised it, so now they should take accountability and deliver the code.

I also talked to NVIDIA, and they explained that even though they wished otherwise, they couldn’t because they no longer had any code available. They had hit the maximum allowed by the game manufacturer.
