I changed my GTX 970 to an AMD RX 6800, but the system won't boot. Even with two separate 8Pin power connectors, it still doesn't start. Only two red flashes appear on the GPU and it restarts repeatedly.
The PSU is 650W, which the GPU box claims is sufficient, but the XFX site says a minimum of 750W might be needed. Would this really stop the boot? Do I have a defective GPU?
Are the PSU cables from this particular PSU? Were these shipped with this PSU?
Consider using another video cable for the monitor—such as HDMI or DP—or a different video port.
Which white LED lights up just before the system restarts?
Does it still work with the previous GPU?
Is the motherboard BIOS current?
This GPU has a switch on its side; change its position while the system is powered off.
Edit: Are the fans spinning for the GPU?
The cables come from this PSU, correct.
Video cable doesn't affect anything. I've used DP, HDMI, and no cable.
The white LED is from the motherboard.
System boots and operates normally with the old GPU.
BIOS has been updated to the latest version.
I haven't tested the switch yet—what does it do?
The white LED visible is part of the motherboard, located beneath the GPU. The GPU only has two red LEDs visible near the power cables in the video.
DUDE YOU'RE A LEGEND. IT WAS THE SWITCH?
I flicked it all the way to the right, it was originally dead centre, and it worked.
I then looked it up and found that the right is balanced mode and the left is "rage mode". So I turned it off and flicked it to the left to put it in rage mode and it's working fine. Drivers installed and system functioning. Thank you so much I have no idea why having it in the middle position causes the error we see in the video but hey, whatever.
