New GPU causes crashes in green screen applications.
I recently upgraded my GPU from the GTX 1660 Ti to the RX 6750 XT. Before installing it, I removed all NVIDIA drivers using DDU. Then I installed the latest AMD drivers from Adrenaline. The system runs smoothly for a few minutes—between 3 and 30 seconds—but after that it crashes, showing a black screen on my main monitor (connected via DisplayPort) and a blank green screen on my second monitor (HDMI). For reference, here’s the video: IMG_5639.MOV.
My troubleshooting steps so far include updating the BIOS, trying to update chipset drivers without success, and checking for loose cables. It might help to note that I also replaced my PSU during the upgrade. Everything seems properly connected, but if power issues are likely, please advise. My searches suggest this problem is mostly related to Radeon cards. I’m open to switching back to NVIDIA if needed, but I’d prefer fixing it without returning anything. Help is needed!
I’ve mostly searched online about green screen crashes and mostly found reports from users with RX 5000 or 6000 series cards. It looks like this might be unusual, but it seems to be becoming more common. 2. I don’t have the chance to test it on another system since I only have one PCI-E port. 3. No, I’m not using any unconventional cables or adapters. 4. Temperatures appear normal, though I haven’t run enough tests. I played Red Dead 2 for about ten minutes before the first crash occurred, and the temperature was still below 70°C. 5. I don’t know what those terms mean, but something interesting happened in the power usage section of Task Manager—values spiked to high or very high levels right before swapping the PSU and GPU. Could this point toward a power-related problem?
Stress tests and benchmarks were considered. Was the DDU run in Safe Mode? Did you install any of these drivers or others? https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/releas...win-23-5-1
I’m checking some benchmarks and monitoring temperature and performance. The DDU was run from safe mode, which is what others recommended. I repeated it because it was a frequent suggestion. I cleared the system and reinstalled the AMD drivers this time. I’m hoping that helps. I also installed 23.5.1, but I’m wondering if there are any additional driver packages needed to further improve things.
Check your Windows setup health, it's wise to do. Open a Command prompt with admin privileges. Run the following command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /restoreHealth sfc /scannow
Yes, it's generally a good idea to update the GPU drivers yourself.
