Hey there! I've just switched my GTX1080 to a new AMD 7900XT GPU. The new card sits in the top PCIe16 slot on my board (PCIex16_1), but it blocks access to the lower slot (PCIex16_2). Previously, I used PCIex16_2 with my Elgato capture card, and now both devices can't fit together. I'm curious about how this change might affect performance. I know PCIe 3.0 offers more bandwidth than 4.0, but I'm not sure if 3.0 is sufficient with the right number of lanes. What's your take?

Installing a 7900XT GPU in a PCie3 x2 slot will severely impact its performance. The best practical setup is PCie3 x8, even then it might run slower. You might consider building a "vertical capture card" with a PCie riser cable or opt to swap the board entirely.

I believe it's PCIe3 x4, though it seems not very practical. I've considered using a riser cable, but I think it will still be limited by this large GPU. I might have to relocate the GPU to a suitable port. ~sigh~

It's feasible to use the GPU in the top slot with a riser, even if placed vertically, though it may not work well in standard PC cases.
