pcie 4.0 for the most part should not matter, gen 3 x16 is enough bandwidth, but again wait for ampere to actually launch and check power consumption, as for these two systems, if you're mainly gaming, the 10600k is better. when are you planning on building it though? you could wait for zen 3 as well and check what it has to offer.

Thanks for your prompt reply. I was mainly interested in the FE edition of the 3080 due to concerns about stock levels, but after checking forums it looks like most people recommend waiting and reviewing real user experiences before deciding. My goal is to have this rig assembled by early 2021 at the earliest.

Just hold on until more information comes out about ampere. Keep an eye on Zen 3 and see what it brings.

Currently reaching 10600K. By early 2021 AMD's Zen 3 chips were expected, and it's hard to say how they'll stack up against Intel for gaming.
