Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a brand new laptop. The model is the Sager Clevo NP8677-S
http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8677s-cle...-8653.html
The only modifications made were:

Screen upgrade to g-sync IPS display
Memory: 32GB DDR4 at 2133mhz
Storage: 32 gigabytes of DDR4, 1 x 256 gigabyte SSD, 1 x 1TB HD drive
Display: IPS Gsync with 970m Nvidia graphics
Processor: 6th Gen Intel® Skylake™ i7-6700HQ (2.6GHz - 3.5GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)

I’m curious about the steps I should take after unpacking this device. Before I begin testing games and other applications, I want to optimize its performance. The system reports a clock speed of 2.6GHz, but the processor indicates a range of 2.6 - 3.5GHz. Does that mean it can automatically adjust or is there a limit?
Can I attempt to overclock both the graphics card and the CPU? If so, which tools would be best for this purpose?
What software should I install to improve speed, security, or customization?
Someone suggested using Advanced System Care.
I’d really appreciate any advice you can offer here. I’m prepared to spend about $10 on a helpful response via PayPal (I can’t ask for free).
My goal is to set up this new rig properly and ensure it runs at its best.

first, i would verify that all your drivers are current. i notice they might not be installed if you choose to enable the OS. the clock speed difference is between base frequency and boost frequency. therefore, when it requires additional power, it can increase to 3.5 ghz by using more energy (and generating more heat). this will happen automatically, you don’t have to initiate it yourself. regarding overclocking... i don’t think the CPU is unlocked for that purpose. you could try overclocking the GPU, but keep in mind that laptops are built to handle limited heat, and overclocking will increase that. proceed cautiously, take gradual steps, and look for an overclock that remains stable without damaging the system. msi afterburner is a popular...

Initially, I’d make sure all your drivers are current. I notice they might not be installed if you choose the OS option. The clock speed difference is between base and boost frequencies. When it needs extra power, it can increase to 3.5 ghz by using more energy (and generating more heat). This adjustment happens automatically, so you don’t have to do it manually. Regarding overclocking... I’m not sure if the CPU supports unlocking for this purpose. You could try overclocking the GPU, but keep in mind that laptops are built to handle limited heat, and doing so will increase thermal output. Proceed cautiously, take gradual steps, and aim for a stable setting that doesn’t damage the system. Msi afterburner is a common tool for this kind of adjustment. There are many guides available in these forums that can assist you, but it’s important to learn on your own since there’s no universal “perfect” configuration for every GPU. A program like hwmonitor could also be useful for monitoring temperatures and usage while you work through the process.

And definitely install an antivirus. Free options work just fine. I personally use Avira, but there are many alternatives. I recommend starting at www.ninite.com to browse available programs and select all you like, then installing them in one go—saves a lot of time!

Also, just a note to everyone here (mostly), we’re here because we want to assist. No one would ask for payment to share our insights, and we’re happy to help.

I’m curious about the steps I should take after unpacking this device. I received it yesterday and before diving into games or other tasks, I want to optimize its performance. Could you clarify what actions are necessary? Specifically, I need to understand if the system’s reported speed of 2.6GHz is accurate, since the processor claims a range of 2.6 - 3.5GHz. Does that indicate it can be boosted up to 3.5GHz?

Can I attempt to overclock both the graphics card and the processor? If so, which tools are best suited for this purpose?

What software should I install to improve speed, security, or fine-tuning?
Some suggestions were given: Advanced System Care, Malwarebytes, AVG PC Tuneup, Auslogics Boostspeed.

I’m open to any advice and would appreciate a quick payment of $10 via PayPal from someone who can provide the most helpful response. My goal is to set up this new rig efficiently and ensure it runs at its best.

Based on what I understand, the system uses Intel Turbo Boost 2.0, which allows the clock speed to adjust automatically depending on workload. If you decide to push the CPU further, you might need an unlocked BIOS if available. For GPU tuning, MSI Afterburner works well. For general maintenance, Auslogics Boostspeed is effective. Malware protection could be handled with Malwarebytes.

Let me know what steps are recommended for a smooth setup and optimal performance.
