New Gaming Laptop Advice
New Gaming Laptop Advice
Hey there all. As noted at the top of the discussion, here are my details about searching for a new gaming laptop. Thanks ahead of time!
1. What is your budget? Under $2000 – mostly looking for Black Friday offers, and I’m a disabled vet who only shops at sites with discounts.
2. What notebook size are you thinking about? 17 inches.
3. What resolution do you prefer? Open to suggestions.
4. Are you looking for a portable or desktop replacement? Portable – laptop.
5. How important is battery life? Since it’s for gaming, you’ll want something with solid power. You should mostly charge it.
6. Would you like to play games on your laptop? If yes, please list the games you’re interested in and their preferred settings (Low, Medium or High). Yes – online multiplayer FPS and offline RPGs.
7. What other activities do you plan to use the laptop for? Typical tasks include photo/video editing, browsing the web, news, sports, and storing photos.
8. What storage capacity do you need? At least 1TB.
9. If you’re planning to buy from specific retailers, please share their links. I’m only interested in new items and have checked Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, Lenovo, Dell, and Microsoft so far. No open-box deals.
10. How long do you intend to keep the laptop? 2 to 4 years.
11. What type of optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer, Bluray ROM/Writer, etc. – N/A.
12. Which brands do you prefer and why? Lenovo, MSI, Asus, Alienware – I’m leaning toward mainstream brands for reliability.
13. Where are you based? U.S.
14. Any other details you’d like to share? I’ve owned a Sager 17-inch for the past 3½ years. It’s generally reliable, but the monitor connection has failed twice, causing the screen to break down and need replacement. It gets stuck when opened. I’m ready to move on. Many opinions exist, but I’m aiming for a dependable 17-inch gaming laptop without those issues. Based on what I’ve read, I’m focusing on these basics…
i7 11th gen or AMD 5800 series CPU or better, RTX3070 GPU or better, 16GB RAM minimum, 1TB SSD hard drive minimum. A good keyboard, decent audio (the one on my Sager is terrible), and/or a metal case would be nice, but aren’t deal-breakers.
Thanks again for your help and suggestions.
