We all possess a collection of 100 to 1,000 titles yet nothing to engage with. (Some carry lots of clothes but nothing on hand) I’m looking for fresh suggestions. Mostly FPS, especially solo play, somewhat relaxed. (I struggle with multiplayer and lack the patience to master battle royale or clunky clones like DayZ.) Current favorites: Arma series, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Doom, Half-Life, Fallout, GTA, G-Mod, Haydee Killing Floor, Left 4 Dead, Mass Effect, Metro, Shadow of Mordor, Nether, Rust Stalker. Also check Spec Ops: The Line, Star Wars games, System Shock 2, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Turok (N64 ports), Verdun, Warhammer 40,000, Space Hulk, Deathwing, DOW 1, WA, DC, Soulstorm, Chaos Rising, Witcher 2, Wolfenstein. Any recommendations? I’m eager for the summer sale on Insurgency, and while I enjoyed Fear of the Phantom, it felt uninspiring. The gameplay was too flat. I saw Total Biscuit play it for his sponsorship, but it didn’t hook me. I don’t enjoy Dark Souls because it feels like wasting time without real payoff. Payday is too repetitive with its short missions and lacks a community vibe. (My friends prefer Super Smash Bros or League of Legends.) I’m not a fan of grinding mechanics in games that don’t offer meaningful rewards.
I'll look them up to see if they're affordable during the sale. I haven't played GTA before, but Dogs 2 was a hidden gem. It brings to mind that Titsnfall 2 had a campaign. Maybe I missed it because $60 feels steep.
Because you enjoy Arma, Squad would likely appeal to you too. The pace is quick, especially in one-hour matches. It’s mainly focused on the player, though you often work together. The game pushes you to cooperate most of the time. Just avoid bad squad leaders. I really like it now since it’s a PC-only game. You can play without directly confronting enemies if you prefer. With its solid base-building mechanics and spawn points, you can fortify structures, place MG positions, and more.
I previously attempted it, but going to the battle each time felt unnecessary since the origins of the bullets were unclear. I plan to try again soon.
Tom Clancy's Division receives a modest score on Steam, yet I find it quite engaging (single-player mode). It keeps you on your toes for hours. A solid choice to grab during sales—purchased at half price, and I’m confident it’s worth the investment. The graphics are pleasant, and there have been no major issues. It offers a refreshing contrast to games that still feel in development. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, consider trying The Hunter: Call Of The Wild. It moves at a slower tempo but delivers breathtaking visuals—like a scenic stroll with occasional wildlife encounters. Some minor bugs exist, but overall it’s a decent title, especially as your skills improve.
Call of Juarez features a gunslinger shadow warrior, Wolfenstien, and he is part of The New Order.
I'll look at the first two options. I believe I tried the old Shadow Warrior for free on Steam using a built-in dosbox. Just in case someone says otherwise, I actually own Wolfenstein, but I'll explore the remaining two ideas. Thanks!
