Hey everyone, I just installed a new PC with a 3600 processor cooled by an EVGA CLC 240. I'm sticking to the original BIOS and only tweaking XMP settings. During a stress test with AIDA 64, I reached over 76°C on the CPU and 85°C on the die. That's higher than usual for this cooler, so I'm considering updating the BIOS or swapping out the cooler. Any advice?

Consider trying a different mount. It might resolve the issue.

I'm sure about it, 76°C looks fine. Ryzen's safe limit is around 95°C. Could you share your idle temperatures? If you're worried about thermal paste or mounting, let me know.

Meh. A remount could be useful. From what I see, the issue is that the CPU isn’t a single chip but multiple ones working together. This means coolers perform only up to a certain point. The value could shift slightly with techniques like lathing and special pastes, but not much. You might fit a smaller cooler and achieve the same outcome. This explains why overclocking doesn’t work well—heat isn’t being removed from the spreader but is instead entering it.

These results are completely typical. When operating at full capacity with my 3700x at standard settings, I consistently reach the 80s during a complete custom loop.

Idle works fine. Maintains 35/40 at windows idle mode.

I believe the issue relates to the standard voltage configuration on Ryzen processors. Although I don’t have a third-generation model, a quick search suggests it might be operating near 1.4-1.45V, which seems elevated. You could experiment with adjusting voltage and capping the maximum clock speed if you expect prolonged high CPU usage to evaluate stability. From my experience with the 2700X, lowering idle temperatures from 35C-45C to about 30-33C improved performance, while stress tests stayed in the upper 60s compared to mid-to-high 70s. The room temperature was around 24-26C.
