New details about ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Dark Hero
Welcome! In summary, expect roughly one week from initial news to over a year, though timing varies. Highest chances appear within a few weeks.
Longer explanation: Viewing this as a typical computer component, the process usually follows: reviewers receive the part after a lengthy but inconsistent period before release. There are constraints on what and when they can discuss it. Generally, announcements arrive about a week or two before availability in stores. If a weakness is known, reviewers may be restricted from mentioning it; otherwise, new insights can emerge. Releases often follow regional schedules—China, the USA, or the EU might see products months or even years ahead of other areas. Sometimes a product is exclusive to one region and never reaches others.
The issue that bothers me is displaying a product without a clear release schedule to ensure it reaches full retail availability. If ASUS encounters problems with the board, they should resolve them instead of delaying its release. I see some retailers might already carry it but plan to keep it off shelves until an official statement comes from ASUS. In my view, this reflects poor transparency and a lack of responsibility for promises. Are there others who know more about this motherboard?
I'm also new to this community, yet I've been trying to gather any available info about this product. There are several YouTube videos related to it, especially from der8auer (https://youtu.be/3CEFQxsgZ20), and it was recently covered in a Gamers Nexus overclocking broadcast. Since I'm based in the UK, I've mainly looked at local retailers, of which only two have listings. Neither of them provide details about the release date or pricing. One seller mentioned they aren't bound by an NDA, just lacking specifics on their system. Asus tends to be tight with contact information too. My best estimate from other rumors suggests availability until mid-December, but everyone seems uncertain at the moment.
Marketing involves a subtle craft. Often it leans heavily into bold visuals. Announcements demand investment—usually significant sums. It’s rarely done lightly. There was a recent car campaign that confused viewers; it was deliberate. Studies suggested confusion increases recall, so the focus stayed on the logo for brand recognition. Maybe you’re aligning with what the marketing team envisions. Marketing blends psychology and culture while stripping away ethics. Edited November 13, 2020 by Bombastinator
Hi Guiomar, thanks for sharing this—I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking about it. I noticed the follow-up that indicates the item is backordered until November 18th. My understanding is that ASUS anticipates demand from people who want the Ryzen 5000 at launch, even if they couldn't secure one initially. They seem to plan for users to buy the non-fanless version first, so when stock runs low they can adjust without having to send another model back as a seller. I'm planning to wait, since the rear IO in the ROG Crosshair is what I really care about, and adding a fan to my motherboard brings back memories of those old, noisy boards that kept failing. Fingers crossed it comes sooner!
Someone has written that they have Dark Hero being sent to them, but not gotten it yet, so I'm waiting to see if its true or not as the site they say they got it from, doesn't have it. Some other site says they get 50+ in December
You can't just tell me or everybody else they don't need to be transparent about product releases! If you want your platform to grow as to NOT have ppl. buy another brand, why delay the announcement or go hiding?? In fact, I did have an insight on ASUS. 2-3 weeks is the wait. Being patient? Can't do that too. Why? Unless you can give me an actual sale of the MOBO before scalpers release their bots over the web, i'd be happy! So don't lecture me or others to be patient because you and I will definitely be looking on who gets these boards first! Like you said....its building hype.
I received communication from ASUS advising me to wait another 2-3 weeks. The issue is they didn’t provide a clear timeline or explain how customers can anticipate preorders for the dark hero. As expected, standard customer service kept offering vague reassurances and urging me to keep checking for updates.
The idea that something is missing from stores and it’s all about a conspiracy doesn’t fit my perspective, particularly now. It seems dark hero might have been revealed too early for the product’s benefit.
