I upgraded my PC with brand new components. The CPU is a Ryzen 5 5600x, the GPU is a 6800xt, and the PSU is 750W. Before the upgrade, I had a Ryzen 5 2600, an RX 580 GPU, a 600W Evo PSU, and a B450 ATX motherboard with 16 GB RAM (slots 2 and 4). After installing everything, the CPU red light turned on without a display. I reinstalled my old CPU, which booted up for a few minutes but then shut off. Side note – I used a small amount of thermal paste; I ordered more, but it might be the reason it’s not working. What do you think?

when upgrading, ensure you remove the always reset your settings in bios. also, find out what the new psu model is. take out the watch battery or coin battery from the motherboard where the old cpu and cooler are installed, and place it back after about two minutes. try booting into bios then and update it to run 5600x. you might need to replace the 6800 x with your rx 580. also, remove all amd graphic drivers from the windows os once you're back in.

I really like how quickly they responded! And the new PSU model is labeled “Sama X Series XF750w.” I didn’t know that brand existed, but it’s on sale, so I’ll start checking it out.

if you have a melon unit, please let me know. Check if your PSU works with your previous power supply and graphics card.

Fixed! I was a bit slow when changing the PSU, but I ended up using the same cords from my old one because they looked the same and fit. However, I switched to the cords that came with the new PSU, and now everything works fine! Thanks!

Never use the old PSU cables again. They seem alike but might be connected differently. Luckily, you avoided a problem.

Did you verify that the BIOS was current enough to accept the new CPU? If not, you'll have to install the older CPU first. After that, flash the BIOS and insert the new CPU—then everything should work fine.

It’s possible I sounded overly emotional, but it’s likely others have made similar comments here. To be safe, consider this advice. If you’re installing the latest PSU and GPU now, as Steve recommended, ensure your BIOS is updated for the newer CPU.

it's good to hear it's functioning, as mentioned before it should only use the cords provided. the bios should be updated for the b450 to ensure compatibility with the 5000 series.
