You're considering an i5 10600 non-K with a B460 board and 16GB RAM. It's expected to run at around 2666MHz, which should be suitable for gaming at 1440p resolution. The upcoming Zen 3 launch is coming soon, but since the new 5600 series isn't available yet in your area, you'll need to wait until then for optimal performance.

A Ryzen 5 3600 paired with DDR4 3600 on a B450 motherboard would be more affordable while maintaining the same gaming performance. You could also upgrade to a newer Ryzen model later if needed. The 2666MHz limit on today’s Intel CPUs seems significant for this generation in terms of speed.

It would be smarter to opt for a 3600 and a budget-friendly B550 board, such as the B550M PRO-VDH.

The Ryzen 3600 and Intel i5 10600 are priced similarly in my area. The i5 seems to offer better single-core performance, but the main concern is whether the i5 can handle the Ryzen 3 7100X3D without issues.

Consensus reached on this. The only CPU suitable for gaming is the 10600K paired with a Z470 board, though it will be pricier. Locked i5s don’t make sense for gaming. You can either choose a Z490 motherboard with a 10600K (more costly) or opt for a Ryzen 3600 (budget-friendly, similar performance to 10600 + b460). Those are the best choices.

The main strength of a single-core locked i5 isn't its performance, since high-speed RAM is crucial for these modern systems. Intel restricts RAM speeds above 2666MHz unless you purchase an overclocking board like the Z490, which comes at a higher cost.

The i5 performs well in gaming with costly motherboards, yet struggles on budget options. Opt for a B450 or B550 board priced lower than B460 models, paired with DDR4 speeds of 3200 or 3600 if you're on a tighter budget.
