New cpu?
New cpu?
I recently purchased an Intel i5 3570 from eBay. I attempted to install it on my Dell OptiPlex 790 motherboard. When I powered it on, it would run for two seconds before shutting off and turning back on three times. After a short wait, no GPU signal was detected. I tried reinstalling the GPU, but still no signal. Eventually, I replaced the i5 2400, and everything functioned properly afterward. I’m unsure if the issue was with the motherboard or the CPU—any advice would be greatly appreciated.
That's a great setup! You're looking to understand how to use your Master 600W cooler effectively. Let me know what you'd like to focus on—temperature management, fan speed, or something else?
Absolutely, I've got a fresh motherboard now, so let's check it out!
Only because it matches the same port doesn't guarantee it will function. The board needs to accommodate 3rd generation core series CPUs in its BIOS/firmware; otherwise, it won't work.
Sure, I've got a Gigabyte GA-Z68MA-D2H-B3 board. The i5-3570 should fit there.
Consider the manufacturer's site before purchasing components. This will provide clarity. Z68 boards typically don't come with that CPU by default. You'll likely need a BIOS upgrade, which may involve booting with your 2400 and installing the newest BIOS from their site if a version supporting 3rd gen CPUs exists. The 70 series chipsets were released alongside the 3rd generation processors.
