New computer starts up but displays a flashing DRAM error.
Hey there! I’m putting together my second gaming PC from the ground up and chose the AM5 platform. At first, when I powered it on, the motherboard’s DRAM light began blinking roughly every 5 to 8 seconds. Then I noticed the fans started to flicker slightly, my peripherals shut down, and the monitor lost its signal. Eventually I saw the BIOS screen for a brief moment before the light turned off again and disappeared. I’ve re-seated the RAM three times and adjusted its placement as well. My main concerns are whether the RAM is faulty or if there’s another issue I’m missing. For context, the parts I have installed are: AMD 7800X3D, Gigabyte RX 6800 XT OC 2x 16GB, Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz CL40, B650 Tomahawk Wi-Fi. I know some users had trouble with RAM speeds above 5600MHz before, but I think the issue here might be different. Thanks in advance for any advice—this project took about four hours, and I’m eager to have everything ready for the CP2077 DLC.
Are you asking about the RAM with model number "CMH32GX5M2B6000C40"? This is the 6000 MHz CL40 RAM listed on the QVL site. Have you refreshed your BIOS? The newest version mentions better DDR5 support. https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-B650...pport#bios
Review page 22 for the location of the bios flash button and page 56 for the instructions. Consider testing with only one RAM stick installed first—place both sticks in each slot until you find a compatible one. If that fails, try flashing the BIOS using the button. If neither works, the issue may be with the motherboard or RAM.
Gotcha. I’ll give that a try in the morning. I’ve already tried all of the different ram configurations and it only made it worse. (Both CPU and DRAM lights stayed on). Additionally, I should be receiving a replacement set of Ram either tomorrow or Monday to try with better CL30 timing. this one: CMH32GX5M2B6000Z30K Someone else mentioned it may be because the timings were too slow with CL40. Not sure. Again, thank you for the detailed help. This is all a bit above my level of knowledge.
