I recently purchased a new computer and it didn’t quite meet my expectations. I upgraded from an older i5 and GTX 970 to a newer i7-8700k with an RTX 2080, along with other components, anticipating smooth gameplay at the highest settings. Streaming occasionally also affected performance, which was expected but still led to lower frame rates in many titles. I’m looking for advice from the community.

Games I enjoy: CS:GO, Minecraft, Escape From Tarkov, GTA V, Modern Warfare, etc.

Hardware:
GPU – MSI Gaming GeForce RTX 2080 8GB
CPU – Intel Core i7-8700K
RAM – G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Motherboard – Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO
Power Supply – Corsair RMX Series, RM850x
Cooler – Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO
Storage – Samsung 970 EVO SSD 1TB
Expansion – Seagate FireCuda 2TB Solid State Hybrid Drive

I don't think any machine would handle those games at 8k smoothly without a problem.

Do you recall any particular situations where you thought your system would perform better, such as benchmarks? You might begin by testing with 3DMark using the Steam demo version; observe if your results match those of others. If not, consider running a CPU benchmark (like Cinebench) and compare it to the results. Also, make sure your RAM is operating at a faster speed—look in Task Manager under Memory to see the actual values.

Does the display connect to the motherboard or the graphics card? (This should connect to the GPU.)

Would you like to provide the specific settings, resolution, and FPS you're experiencing in these titles? You might want to use a hardware monitoring tool such as MSI afterburner or NZXT CAM. Look into CPU and GPU clock speeds to confirm they align with expected values. Ensure all RAM is properly registered and operating at the correct speeds. As minibois suggested, running benchmarks can help compare your setup against others.
