I recently acquired a used gaming PC from a friend who needed some repairs. I thought it would be ideal for me to dive into the world of building my first computer using the information I had. It turned out the unit required a new power supply, so I recently bought one on Amazon. It’s a 650 model with RGB lighting, and I installed it. When I turned it on, it started and then shut off again. Could someone assist me with what might be going wrong? The title mentions it’s a new build here, and I have limited experience—any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

The complete details are as follows:
1. Full specifications are available upon request.
2. I haven’t attempted to activate it at your friend’s location.

The latest PSU model is available. Many of the previous ones with RGB lighting perform poorly, since they rely on this feature for marketing. Have you incorporated any of the earlier power supply cables during the installation of the new one?

I didn’t visit his place since I’ve seen him use it before, so I asked few questions. The machine is a high-performance system—CyberPower 8 GB RAM, NVidia GeForce GTX 4030, an older build without an SSD—that’s all I understand about it.

This "before" refers to the current situation. He can lend you a PSU if you need it for testing purposes.

I had concerns about that product. Apevia is known for producing some of the worst power supplies available, and their PSUs are essentially unreliable. I wouldn’t choose one to run a toaster even if offered for free. They might be fun for dramatic house fires! If you can, send it back quickly and consider upgrading to a reliable model like the MSI A650BN. You can find this information on the PSU Tierlist, which shows Apevia mainly offers low-end units in the C:Tier, with most being outdated E-waste or F:Tier options.

I purchased it from him three months ago after he bought his new PC. He mentioned the power supply was about to fail but didn’t know how long it would last. I managed to get it for about a month before it stopped working. I was able to save some money and then bought a replacement.
