Hello,
I recently assembled a new gaming PC on the 31st of July. After completing the setup, I installed Windows and AMD drivers, and managed to play for a short time before going to bed. The following morning, upon turning it on, I encountered several problems:
- When powering off the PC, it doesn’t actually shut down; it remains idle with all screens, mouse, and keyboard off. It takes about 5 to 10 minutes for nothing to happen before it restarts into Windows again. Pressing the restart button in Windows also causes significant delays.
- Shutting down or restarting from Safe Mode works normally—PC turns off at shutdown and restarts immediately when instructed.
- AMD drivers frequently crash after Windows boots.
- It either reports an error with the graphics driver, prompting a safe mode restart, or indicates an issue loading drivers.
System details:
OS: Windows 10
CPU: AMD 7800X3D
CPU cooler: Arctic freezer III 420mm
GPU: Sapphire nitro+ 7900XTX
Motherboard: MSI MAG Tomahawk b650 WIFI
RAM: g-skill Trident 6000mhz 2x32GB (compatible with motherboard)
PSU: Be quiet straight power 12 1000W
PC case: Thermaltake CTE C750
SSD: NVME 980EVO samsung 2TB

I have reinstalled Windows multiple times, updated BIOS to the latest version, tested older versions for compatibility, and then reverted to the latest.
My GPU works fine on another machine with an Intel 13700k, so no driver issues there.
I’m currently running RAM tests using Windows memory diagnostic; results are consistent with previous tests.
Temperatures for CPU and GPU are normal.
I’m wondering if I might have a faulty motherboard. I’ve built several gaming PCs myself over the years without such issues.

Edit: RAM testing showed no errors.
Edit2: I’m now noticing hardware errors in Windows Reliability Monitor, specifically codes 1b0 and 141.
141 seems linked to the graphics driver; I have no idea about 1b0.

Hey there,
Have you reset the CMOS after any of the bios were changed? If not, you should do this to eliminate the bios.

Thank you for the update, I tried this recently when I came home but it didn’t seem to help much. However, before heading out to work I left the power cable unplugged for around 15 minutes and then reconnected it. Now my drivers are functioning properly, and I’ve managed through several restarts without any crashes. The only remaining problem is that my PC refuses to shut down when I press the shutdown button. I’m currently attempting a Windows 11 update to check if this issue resolves itself.

After switching to windows 11 the driver crashing problem returned. I rolled back the update and the issue disappeared once more. In safe mode, when I turned off the PC it shut down entirely. Restarting from safe mode caused it to restart right away.
