(New Build) Crash then CPU and/or DRAM indicators after extended Windows usage
Hello Second time building. Here are the specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX [BIOS Ver. F7a] CPU: AMD Ryzen 7900X RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB x 2 (5600mhz) GPU: Nvidia RTX 3080 PSU: Thermaltake Smart BX1 750W OS: Windows 10 Issue: Boots into OS, but the computer will randomly crash and the red CPU light turns on. Can be hours, can be 20 minutes. I'm been troubleshooting for 5 days now. I've tried: Every variation of RAM before eventually getting it to boot with A2/B2 (It didn't work at some point in the build) Re-seating the CPU 3 times Re-seating the PSU cords multiple times (From old build; worked like a charm) Running without dedicated GPU Observing for visual issues with CPU using laymen eyes Checked for loose metal that might be shorting something Cleared CMOS (killed the battery AND used the pins) updated bios Set bios to recommended default settings Reinstalled Windows 10 And now I'm lost. I'm using the computer right now waiting for a crash so I can run memtest86. If it's not the ram, how do I go about discovering if the MOBO or CPU is the one causing issues? Or maybe I missed something? Please help I'm very lost Edit: There certainly was an issue with my RAM! Putting my working RAM into A2 has dramatically increased stability. The crash times range from less than one minute to ~13 hours @ a new record. I'm not sure what that necessarily means but I still have a gut feeling it's the Mobo so I guess replacing that is my next step. I'll update once my new RAM is tested. This request is quite challenging... you'll likely need a different board or CPU to properly evaluate it. Consider disabling XMP or RAM overclocking to see if stability improves. You might also try testing with a single RAM stick. If it crashes, switch to another slot. Make sure to check all slots if it fails to boot.
You're concerned about XMP settings and CPU compatibility. It seems you're exploring options to test your setup. There are services available for benchmarking and stress testing CPUs, such as Cinebench, 3DMark, or specialized tools like AIDA64. You might also consider reaching out to forums or communities with compatible rigs for advice. Assessing performance improvements versus the effort involved will help decide if it's worth proceeding.
