New 5950X Ryzen 9 running at 80-90°C temperatures
I upgraded my RAM from 16GB to 32GB earlier this week but then began experiencing blue screens when opening Chrome or COD BO6. Once, the PC shut down completely and displayed a grey screen. I purchased a Ryzen 9 5950X from Amazon to replace the previous Ryzen 5 1600X. After installing it, I didn’t use the PC for a few hours and noticed it became quite hot. When I booted into BIOS, I received an overheating warning at 86°C without using it. I turned it off and removed the AIO water cooler with two fans in push-pull mode, then reinstalled the stock cooler. The CPU was still running at around 4% load according to Task Manager, but temperatures stayed at 80°C or higher. I played a game and it reached 97°C. I re-seated the CPU twice and applied a thick layer of thermal paste. Any suggestions would be appreciated. MSI B550 Gen 3 Motherboard, 32GB DDR4, Corsair LPX CL16 3200MHz, 8GB sticks (all identical but running at 1600MHz instead of 3200MHz as advertised). AMD 5950X, Ryzen 9, MSI B550 AM4, NVIDIA RTX 2060, Corsair CX500M, power supply currently on a stock cooler I got with the Ryzen 5 2600 a few years ago.
The claimed speed is misrepresented; manufacturers list double data rate rates instead of actual frequency. Actual measurements show the real speed, not twice the advertised figure. Tools like CPU-Z track frequency accurately, not data rates. You should update your reference to match real values. Cooling the 5950X is helpful but may not fully prevent throttling if the fan isn't functioning. Recheck connections and ensure the cooler is seated correctly. A photo of the thermal paste pattern can help confirm proper mounting and paste application.
