I just got a 3700x and it's behaving strangely. It reaches up to 4.4ghz, heats up around 63°C, then increases fan speed and drops its clock speeds to 4.0-4.1ghz. I tried adjusting the fan RPM, but it didn't help much. The YENZY MASTER isn't responding, and I've confirmed everything is properly connected and powered. No load on the CPU seems to be causing the issue. Outside of replacing the cooler, I'm saving for a D15 ATM.
The CPU increases speed only up to 4.4GHz when required. Some chrome tabs don’t need full turbo. Turning on maximum performance power plan helps if you prefer higher output. I’ve tested the 3700X and NH-D15, and this is typical. Performance gains from changing power plans are rare; they mainly affect idle behavior.
Despite this, it’s best to install the chipset drivers since that’s the only method for AMD to access custom Windows Power Plans and achieve peak performance. You can activate the balanced power plan so the CPU manages its boosts and usage automatically. Temperature spikes are typical with Ryzen processors. My 3700X often reaches 60°C or even 70°C briefly, usually for just a moment or two. Even with the D15 chipset, keeping it below 85°C during full load is acceptable. You probably don’t need an additional cooler. I chose the D15 mainly for complete quiet operation. Based on what I understand, the Wraith Prism works adequately for the 3700X if you’re not too concerned about noise.
It’s highly probable that MSI bloatware is interfering with Ryzen Master. Dragon Centre is very poor quality and unstable. Consider removing it if you can.
