I have two PCs linked via an unmanaged switch. They’re sharing the same public IP address. I need the second one to get a unique IP. I’ve tried changing and renewing the IP using CMD and disconnecting the router for 30 minutes, but it hasn’t worked. What solutions could help?

Your public IP stays consistent whenever traffic goes through a NAT. It's not possible to have two IP addresses for a single connection. You use private and public IPs. If you have router access, you can configure port forwarding to let external devices reach a computer via a specific port, but the actual IPs remain unchanged.

That's what you believed at first, but I wondered if that might not be correct. It seems the device isn't appearing in the XFi app, which prevents me from setting up a port forward.

What method are you using to find your computer's IP address? If you're performing an online search, the same IP will appear because your router assigns it by your ISP. You should know your local network IP. Open the command prompt and type ipconfig to see it. You'll find your Ethernet adapter listed with an IP like 192.168.x.x. Use this address when configuring port forwards. Also, ensure you set the IP as static in your DHCP pool so that if your device changes IP, the port forwards remain stable.

Not appearing in the static pool probably explains why the app isn't listed in the port forwarding section—it needs to be configured as static first.

Do you have a direct connection to the router's main interface, and is it possible to modify configurations through that point?

That's why Comcast is slow—they have half the settings in their app and the other half require direct access to the gateway to modify. We're really glad we don't rely on their equipment. They only provide one IPv4 address, unless you opt for extra ones, which might not be available with standard residential plans.

I'm having trouble forwarding the router gateway. It sends me to XFi, which isn't showing up on any of my computers. I thought it should be in the static pool, but maybe I'm mistaken. Could you help confirm if it's there and guide me through the process? Changing settings is possible, but portforwarding and other configurations need to be done on XFi.

It's possible to purchase your own cable modem and router, which might resolve this issue. A simple idea.
