Networking Ethernet switch? Upgrade? Splitter?
Networking Ethernet switch? Upgrade? Splitter?
Hello, we received a new modem/router from Xifinity with just two Ethernet ports. One serves my PC and the other my roommate's Xbox. After installing Philips Hue bulbs, I realized I need a Hue bridge with Ethernet access to manage them. (Maybe I should have checked the labels earlier.) How can I increase the number of ports? A switch might be the right solution? What options do you recommend?
It functions by determining the best choice without requiring many connections.
I linked the one above as the most affordable reliable option I've found. I've been using it for nearly a year without any problems. Since it's an unmanaged switch, your current router will handle IP assignments and all the setup automatically. Just connect one port from your router to the switch, and the rest will work seamlessly—no software needed.
Sure thing, everyone agreed you need a change. The Monoprice model is fine, but if you're not keen on non-brand switches or prefer fewer cables sticking out (the DC port is on the side of the Monoprice switch), Newegg is a good spot. They list TP-Link options under $20, maybe around $15—just check the price in the cart since I don’t want to log in. One has all the plugs on the back and looks nice. For the ultra-budget, a 100Mbps switch is possible but your Xbox would cap at 100 Mbps. A decent choice for under $10 is here: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...6833156066
