Network upgraded from 1Gbps to 2.5Gbps, yet copying limited to 1Gbps maximum speed
Good Day. I just need some advice. I've recently purchased a Trend-net TEG-S350 2.5Gbp 5 port switch. as well as two IOcrest (Model, SI-PEX24059 Realtek chipset) PCi-express 2.5Gbp nics. I've installed one network card in my personal "Windows 10 pro" machine, and the other one in my "Windows 10 pro" file server. My original cable runs were Cat5E, But I have since run new Cat6 cables between the machines and the switch. I have a 2TB samsung 860 EVO in the file server and a Silicon power M.2 drive in my personal machine. Both network connection are connected at 2.5Gbp. However file transfers still max out at only 1Gbp. I've monitored drives and network usage on both machines and they are nowhere near maxed out (hovering around 15 to 20% on the m.2 and 30% on the ssd). Neither is cpu power or anything else throttling. Is there any settings that I should tune on both windows machines to get the maximum throughput possible? I'm not an expert at networking, so I don't know if I should simply adjust jumbo packet frames or something. If you guys need more information feel free to ask. Thanks. I have attached some screenshots of my machine but everything mirrors exactly the same on my server.
Check if iperf confirms a stable 2.5Gb connection between the two devices. Verify performance metrics to ensure speeds exceed expectations. Also, confirm your network switch displays the correct 2.5Gb LED indicators (green, not red) to validate the link status.
Switch indicates approval for both devices. According to the switch, 2.5gbp is green. I haven't used Iperf yet, but I'll look it up quickly.
Teracopy produced identical outcomes. I won’t rely solely on the command line for copying. I plan to test Iperf and will provide the specifics later. My setup includes a single port from the 2.5Gb switch linked to my 1Gb network, allowing devices to access IPs from the router. Essentially, I’m aiming to transfer substantial data between my workstation and the file server, which is why upgrading the network speed is necessary.
It seems you're checking for any applications that use the 2.5gbit connection.
I appreciate your insight. I plan to transition to the Linux command line someday.
